Flag Organizations

NAVA is a charter member of the Fédération internationale des associations vexillologiques (International Federation of Vexillological Associations), known by its French acronym FIAV. FIAV comprises regional, national, and multinational vexillological associations and institutions across the globe. Organized at the 3rd International Congress of Vexillology in 1969, FIAV has sponsored the biennial congresses since that time. The International Congresses of Vexillology have been held in Australia, Austria, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. NAVA has co-hosted these five congresses held in North America: Boston (1969), Washington (1977), Ottawa (1981), San Francisco (1987), and Victoria (1999) 18ICV. The 23rd International Congress of Vexillology was held in 2009 in Yokohama, Japan, hosted by the Japanese Vexillological Association. 24 ICV will be held in Washington, DC, in August 2011 as a joint meeting with NAVA 45. Several vexillological associations publish newsletters, and many NAVA members belong to these fine groups.
